The restrictive/malabsorptive procedures can give permanent changes to your body structure since the small intestine is shortened and the stomach size is reduced during the procedure. Once you have smaller intestine and stomach, you can always fell full and satisfied after in taking less food. In addition, the amount of calories that the body can absorb is also reduced. The options of weight loss surgery for this procedure are Duodenal Switch and Bilopancreatic Diversion.

There is also a combination of procedure from restrictive and malabsorptive wherein the food intake or absorption of an individual is reduced. The options of weight loss surgery for this procedure are distal gastric or long limb bypass.

The restrictive procedures can decrease the stomach size making you stay full longer or feel satiated even after consuming less food. The options of weight loss surgery for this procedure are Laparoscopic Sleeve Mastectomy, Gastroplasty, Adjustable Gastric Banding (AGB) or Lap Band Surgery, and Gastric Bypass (proximal/short limb.

Today, the most frequently performed option of weight loss surgery is the gastric bypass surgery. During this surgery, the stomach is directly connected to the lower section of the small intestine, bypassing some of the jejunum and the duodenum. The section of the small intestine between the stomach pouch and link to the proximal small intestine is known as “roux limb”.
